Soeren Buus Jensen, MD, PhD

Dr. Søren Buus Jensen MD, Dr.Sci is a senior psychiatrist, born and trained in Denmark. Up to the year 2000, he had a strong career in University Psychiatric departments engaged in research, training and clinical work. He left his senior position in Copenhagen to engage full time in International mental health work.

Since the mid-1980's, he was engaged in the work with survivors of torture and organized violence. A background in clinical sexology leads him into the work with survivors of sexual violence under war conditions as well as sexual torture. He has worked internationally outside Denmark for more than 15 years. He did research on Trauma work in Chile, headed the WHO Humanitarian Aid program during the war in ex-Yugoslavia including heading of the WHO Mental health Intervention there. He spent 5 years living in conflict and post-conflict zones in Africa (ao. South Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda, Somalia, Sierra Leone and Liberia). He cofounded the ITSP trauma program with Jack Saul at NYCU/Colombia 20years ago, teaching there for a decade

After his return 2005 to Copenhagen Denmark, he is in a busy private/public practice with special focus on patients suffering from trauma, refugees, survivors of torture and other organized violence. The clinical work is combined with short-term international consultancies.
